While not as documented as the graphics or animations, the sound design around the Metal
Slug games is still very intricate and expertly crafted for each entry.
To aid anyone wanting to dive in deeper into the series' soundwork, I've compiled a list of various
resources and tools that might just satisfy your needs.
This collection features every instrument sample used in both Neo Turf Masters and Metal Slug: SV-001.
The archive contains .dwp soundfonts of both the ADPCM A and B instruments which can be used with FL Studio, as well as a folder with the percussion samples in .wav.
Retrostalgia ripped the ADPCM A samples manually, while the ADPCM B (or Delta T as referred in the archive) ones were sourced from both
TheLegendofRenegade and
JJ MH.
Thanks a lot to Retrostalgia for this collection!
This collection features a wide variety of audio samples used in Metal Slug 2, X, and 3.
The archive contains .dwp soundfonts of the ADPCM instruments which can be used with FL Studio, as well as a folder with the percussion samples in .wav.
The folder also has a copy of one of the first MS soundfonts ever created by the user Tex
in 2012.
More info on the original rippers of these samples can be found in the ReadMe text also included in the archive.
Thanks again to Retrostalgia for this big collection!
This archive features a custom made .dwp drumkit
soundfont composed of samples from Metal Slug 1,2,X and
3.
The plugin is compatible with FL Studio Mobile, and it
also contains a preview project to test the kit itself.
Thanks to
Ellipse for the contribution!
This collection contains the .midi files used in the Playstation release of Metal Slug X.
The audio within the files is split up into several audio tracks instead of a single one, which helps at understanding how the MSX OST was
composed for folks interested in that field!
Note that the .midi files don't actually contain any audio, only the raw tracks. You'll have to supply them with a soundfont to play their music.
Thanks to Kitsune DJ for this unique contribution!
This archive contains .midi versions of most of the tracks from Metal Slug: 1st Mission and 2nd Mission.
The tracks were converted with vgm2mid, although not all of them were able to be converted
and there may be a few imperfections within the .midi files. Still, they're great bases for remixes, and they allow fans to see how these tracks were composed.
Thanks a lot to wyz_2015 for converting these tunes and making this archive!
This collection features and organises the entire audio work from Metal Slug Advance,
from voice lines to instruments. Extra kudos to Hambaka for going all the way through!
The .zip features a couple of samples, the raw midi files, and a soundfont of them.
Thanks to Hambaka for thoroughly ripping and documenting this!
This pack contains a huge amount of ripped audio from various official and fan-made Metal Slug Java mobile games.
Such games include Allen's Battle Chronicles, Metal Slug Survivors, Metal Slug Soldiers, Metal Slug STG, Metal Slug 2013, and much more.
The audio included in that archive includes both .wav sound clips and .midi tracks.
Despite the sheer amount of games featured, this isn't an exhaustive collection of all
MS mobile games, since a good amount of them have been lost to time.
Lots of thanks to wyz_2015 for this enormous audio pack!
This work-in-progress collection features a good portion of Metal Slug 1's main instruments and percussions, both in soundfont and .wav files.
Note that each soundfont uses a single note that's pitched up and down to create the rest of the notes, which means that
higher notes will be played really quickly and lower ones will play slowly.
Since the inclusion of Restrostalgia's full sample rip, this pack is now considered obsolete, but it's still worth checking out just in case.
Thanks to Kitsune for this!
This is a rough collection of .sf2s based on the lead instruments used in the first Metal Slug.
Each instrument was isolated and recorded with Nebula Jukebox 2.9, and later edited together with Polyphone.
The collection itself is pretty much obsolete compared to the other ones shared by the contributors of the site, but
I'll still make it available for anyone curious to check it out.
This .zip contains all of the raw audio from Metal Slug 1, 2, X and 3, ripped straight from their ROMs.
The sounds were extracted with mslug_vrom_splitter, a nifty tool created by wyz_2015 themselves that is able
to extract encrypted sound data from the games's .v ROM files. Later, the files were converted to a higher sample rate for better audio clarity.
There's 2 types of audio: instrument samples and sound effects (due to the game using sequenced tracks, there's no already-composed track to extract). There is also no synth nor SSG samples,
since the games create them on the spot with their audio chip. For this download, each game .zip has been bundled together.
Big thanks to wyz_2015 for the contribution and for developing that tool!
This .zip contains all of the raw audio from Metal Slug 4 and 5, ripped straight from their ROMs.
Like the previous collection, the files were extracted with wyz_2015's mslug_vrom_splitter. The files were also
converted to a higher sample rate for better audio quality.
Since Metal Slug 4 and 5 use streamlined tracks instead of sequenced ones, both the full music tracks and sound effects are contained within the .zip.
For this download, each game .zip has been bundled together.
Again huge thanks to wyz_2015 for the contribution!
This collection features the entire sound data of Metal Slug 6 decrypted and ripped straight from the Atomiswave arcade version in lossless quality.
Most sound effects are in .wav format, with a couple of them (synth-based ones) being in midis, while the rest and the music is in .adx format.
To read the .adx files, you can either convert them with ffmpeg or play/convert them using
Foobar2000 with vgmstream installed.
Huge thanks to wyz_2015 for the huge contribution!
This archive features the entire music gallery ripped from the PS2 version of Metal Slug 6.
It features every soundtrack from the series up to MS6 in .adx format in 48000Hz, and have the particularity of containing their looping coordinates in their metadata.
Said looping points are displayed in sample unit, and they can be viewed with a program like Foobar2000 with vgmstream installed.
Interestingly enough, there's also a handful of unused and test tracks included in this rip that aren't accessible in-game.
Thanks to wyz_2015 for this contribution!
This collection features the entire sound data of Metal Slug 3D ripped from the Japan-only PS2 version.
The music, dialogues and announcer voicelines are all stored in the 'MUSIC.AFS folder' and were ripped with AFSPacker, while the sound effects (encoded in Sony PS ADPCM format) are located in the 'se_com.pak' folder and were extracted
with PSound.
The rest of files in the .acx folders were all ripped with wyz_2015's own adx_scanner and
contain the remaining sound data, like voice clips and test audio. The content of the 'se_sysahx.acx' folder, however, contains only duplicates of the previously mentioned voicelines.
Just like MS6, you can either convert the files with ffmpeg or play/convert them
using Foobar2000 with vgmstream installed.
Huge thanks to wyz_2015 for this unique contribution!
When Metal Slug Anthology came out to celebrate the series' 10th anniversary, it also
brought in a brand new collection of sound effects, replacing the previous one used in first 6 games that mostly consisted
of stock sounds.
The sounds were extracted from the PSP version with Dragon UnPACKer 5
and later read and recorded via MFAudio.
This collection features the entire sound data of Metal Slug 7 decrypted and ripped from the .nds ROM in lossless quality.
The BGM and most sound effects are in .wav format, but there's also a lot of .mid sequence files and .sf2 soundfonts that are linked to them.
A manual guide in Chinese and English is also included, which explains how the audio was ripped, the different types of audio formats and how they work in-game.
Huge thanks to wyz_2015 for the big contribution!
This collection features the entire sound data of Metal Slug XX decrypted and ripped from the US Beta PSP version in lossless quality.
Similarly to MS6, the sound effects are in .adx format, however the BGM is in .at3 format. Both of them can be either converted with
ffmpeg or Foobar2000 with vgmstream installed.
An in-depth manual guide in Chinese and English is also included that explains in better details the audio formats of this pack, how the audio works in-game and some of their oddities.
Additional tools that were used in the making of this are the AFSPacker
and wyz_2015's own adx_scanner.
Huge thanks to them for the big contribution!
This .zip features the entire sound data of Metal Slug Defense, ripped from the Android version 1.46.0.97.
The files were originally in a custom .msdf format, but were then converted to .ogg and later re-encoded in .mp3 with a sample rate of 32000 to get a higher sound quality.
The collection features quite a number of sounds exclusive to MSD, including sound clips from King of Fighters used by the units of that same series. Thanks to wyz_2015 for this contribution!
This .zip features the entire original soundtrack from Metal Slug Awakening ripped from the game as of the 29th of may 2025.
The files were ripped and converted in .mp3 format, and since they didn't have specific names to them, they had to be renamed manually (except for a couple of tracks that couldn't be identified).
Kudos to The Huntress for painstakingly doing so!
This .zip contains almost all of Metal Slug 6's arcade sound effects data. Each sound was played from the sound test via Demul and later recorded with Audacity and edited into .mp3 files.
Since then, a newer rip of the MS6 sound data has been submitted to the site, which renders this pack obsolete.
This Excel sheet documents almost all of the discovered sound data from within the game's sound test. It includes the HEX coordinates for each music/sound, names for them and
personal notes about some of the weirder track remixes found inside. Two versions of this Excel sheet are included: one in Chinese and one in English.
To actually listen to the game's tracks, you either need to use Nebula Jukebox
or access the Sound Test.
Thanks to wyz_2015 for providing this list!
This .zip contains all the pre-rendered cutscenes of Metal Slug 3D.
The files, encoded in .SFD format, were extracted from the .ISO of the game located in its root directory, and later converted
to .mp4 with ffmpeg.
While this isn't exactly audio material, it's still interesting enough to make an exception. Thanks to wyz_2015 for this!
This text file contains all of the metadata of Metal Slug 7's music tracks.
The info included is very in-depth, containing internal names, looping coordinates, encoding info, bitrate and much more for each track.
An invaluable resource for people looking to add any MS7 track into their project. Thanks to wyz_2015 for this contribution!
This is a non-exhaustive .txt file that lists the coordinates of most of
Metal Slug 1's in-game tracks (+ the unused ones).
It features the coordinates, the track names and some personal notes taken during the process.
Since the addition of wyz_2015's own document on the same subject, this list has become obsolete, but it might still be of use in case someone would like to compare both lists.
