2 years after Metal Slug 3 and the departure of the original development team, Metal Slug 4 came out on the 27th of March 2002, and was the first Metal Slug to be developed by an external company. It is infamously known to heavily reuse tons of assets from the previous entries, mainly due to development crunches and lack of key creative members.
